The 2002 World Series was a tremendous experience for everyone involved. But as great as it was to be a fan, it’s completely different to be on the team. It’s one thing to know about the Angels and another thing to actually be a member of the Anaheim Angels team.

For many years, my life was like the difference between being a fan and actually being a part of the team. I grew up knowing about God but I really didn’t know Him. Yes, I went to church, stayed out of trouble and tried to live a good life. But it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I recognized and understood that Jesus died for me because I am a sinner. It was then that I surrendered my life to Him, trusting in what He did for me, not what I could do for myself to earn a place in heaven. The Bible states, “For by grace you have been saved by faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Over the past few years I’ve grown to know Christ in a deeper way through reading His Word, the Bible. He has guided me through the challenges of being a husband, father and major league baseball player. He has enabled me to lean on Him and make wise decisions. I have experienced the awesome power of prayer and witnessed God’s amazing love in so many ways. In the everyday pressures of life, I have learned that God’s promises are true. My favorite scripture verse is from Proverbs, “A gentle answer turns away wrath.” (Proverbs 15:1).

I hope you experience the same peace that only comes from following Jesus.
