Tim Hyers

On one November night in 1993, I was asked a question that changed my life forever. A close friend of mine asked me, "What do you think happens to you when you die?" I really wasn't certain how to answer. I attended church on a regular basis and knew about God, but never really understood the impact that John 3:16 had on my life. ("For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.")

I realized that God wanted a relationship with me. He wanted me to accept His Son as my Lord and Savior. At that moment I accepted Jesus as my Savior and realized that baseball and everything else in my life would come second to my love for God. As it says in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well."

From that day on, my life has taken on new meaning. I find my strength and security in my faith in God. Whenever life gets hard, I always remember Philippians 4:6,7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

What a gracious and loving God I serve!
