Have you ever wondered how you measured up in the eyes of people? In life we are constantly being measured by who we are and what we do. Being a professional athlete, I have to perform at a certain level to be accepted or looked at as being successful. I played parts of ten years in the minor leagues under the constant evaluation of others. These people would decide, based on their evaluations, whether or not I would play in the majors.
I now know that it is impossible to measure up to all the expectations others place on me. I've also come to realize that I can never do enough to be considered perfect. With God, it's who you are in Jesus Christ that matters. There is nothing we can do to earn our way to heaven. The Bible states that none of us are perfect, we all sin and fall short of perfection in God's sight no matter how good we are or how hard we try. Jesus Christ came to earth, died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the price for our sins. But we must each accept the payment He made, trusting only in His death as the means to bridge the gap to God. When you do that, you have made the most important decision of your life...the one that gives eternal life.
I made that decision in 1986 and now I have the assurance that when I die I will spend eternity with God. I also have a source of strength to carry me through the tough times and the peace and contentment God offers every one of His children who have trusted Christ as Savior. Don't spend your life trying to measure up to other people's expectations of you or try to measure up to God by your own merit. Settle the issue once and for all by placing your faith in Jesus for eternal life in heaven and abundant life here on earth.
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)
