Baseball has always been the biggest part of my life; in fact, I worshipped the sport. I was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1991 in the 26th round, and was determined to be a wealthy star in the big leagues. In my first season I suffered two shoulder separations and underwent one major surgery, and the god I worshipped had left me all alone. One of my coaches told me about the need to give my life to Christ, and Jesus became my Lord and Savior in July of that year. I rest in the fact that Jesus promises to never leave us. How wonderful to know that I will be with Him in heaven because I have placed my faith and trust in what Jesus did 2000 years ago by dying in my place.

Every day I have incredible peace and joy, and baseball has given me a platform to help lead others to Christ. In 1995 my major league dream was realized and I give Him all the credit. Two of my favorite Bible verses give great perspective on my career and my life: "I can do everything through Him (Jesus Christ) who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13) and "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men" (Colossians 3:23).
