Every pitcher has his “go to” pitch when he gets into a tight spot. The one pitch he knows he can count on when he needs it. Everyone relies on something in the face of adversity, no matter if it’s on the ball field or in everyday matters that life brings our way. In baseball I go to my fastball when I need to get over a hurdle. In life, I go to Jesus. It wasn’t always that way, even though I went to church most of my life. In my freshman year in college I realized that I could never be good enough to earn my way into God’s family, but Jesus paid for my sin when He died on the cross. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). Since placing my faith in Jesus as my Savior, I know where to “go to” for guidance in every area of life. The Bible is God’s Word and provides me with just what I need for comfort, for encouragement, for instruction, for any trial and in every circumstance. Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). I encourage you to read the Bible, especially the Gospel of John and consider how Christ can change your life too.
