I grew up with the same dream that a million other kids had, to be a major league ball player. People told me I’d never make it, that the odds were too great and that I was too small or too slow. I’ve been great to overcome obstacles and realize my dream, but it wasn’t enough. There had to be more to life than just measuring up to the world’s standards. God’s standards are much more important, but humanly impossible to achieve by ourselves. Since we are born with sin and that separates us from God we need a way to be saved. God provided the way by sending His Son, Jesus Christ to die in our place and pay the penalty for sin. The cost was great for God, but He enables us to come to Him freely. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified feely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:23-24).

I was 23 years old before I understood God’s love for me in a personal way and recognized that Jesus paid the debt for my sin. There is nothing we could ever do to earn our way into heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I can know His love that reached out and saved me, and His power that promises me that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13).
