Hans Segers

One man who knows the Dutch grounds well is former Wimbledon goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach at Tottenham Hotspur, Hans Segers. Hans told us, "The Amsterdam Arena where Ajax play is one of the most spectacular in Europe. With the retractable roof, the pitch is always in great condition. While the Amsterdam Arena may be the best, as an Eindhoven boy I have to admit that the Phillips Stadium, home of PSV Eindhoven, is my favorite. It too is a very modern stadium."

But the greatest save Hans ever experienced wasn't ‘between the pages.' Hans' interest in Christianity started when his wife Astrid became a Christian and started to read the Bible. "I didn't understand at first what was happening and wasn't too happy about it, so much so that Astrid would cover the Bible with another book so that I didn't know what she was reading. Astrid started to change. It was small things at first but she was defiantly different. She was happier – radiant is the best way to describe it."

Next came a conversation with Astrid's sister and husband. They simply said that God sent Jesus so that we could be forgiven for all the wrong things we have done. When we ask Jesus into our lives, He gives us new life and wipes the slate clean so we can start afresh. I could see that this had happened for Astrid and I wanted it too. So right there and then I asked the Lord Jesus to come into my heart. I said I was sorry to Him for all the wrong things I had done. I felt such great relief.

"The best thing for me was to know that there really is life after death. The Bible says that God loved the world so much that he gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him won't perish but will have eternal life. God did this so that we can be saved – if we believe in Jesus, we go to Heaven. This isn't fantasy, it's reality.
